Services

The LGBT Campus Center offers a wide variety of services as part of the center. Below are just several of these services, the LGBT Speakers Bureau works to increase awareness of LGBT issues on campus and in the Madison community. The Campus Center also offers mentors, support groups and is a University Library.
Peer Mentoring
The Mentoring program provides an opportunity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning students to discuss issues of sexuality with similar students. We provide a confidential and safe environment for you to talk and ask questions of a peer who understands what you are going through. If you need to discuss questions or concerns regarding your sexuality with a comfortable and caring person who may have gone through some similar experience then the mentor program is perfect for you.

Speakers Bureau
The LGBT Speakers Bureau is an organization of university community members dedicated to increasing awareness of LGBT issues on campus and within the Madison community. The Speakers Bureau is available to speak to classes, student organizations, high schools in the area and other groups that are interested in learning more about any aspect of the LGBT community. The speakers cover a wide range of topics, from LGBT history to personal stories to medical community climate to simple Q&A sessions. The presentation topics and activities are tailored to the needs of the organization or class and have an agenda fitted to a time frame based on specified time duration or other limitation.
Interested in requesting a speaker or a panel? Please try to give at least three weeks advance notice.
The Speakers Bureau is comprised of individuals of all ages, backgrounds and orientations who are interested in breaking down the barriers of homophobia and heterosexism through education and personal conversation. Speakers choose to join the LGBT Speakers Bureau for a variety of reasons: social connections, to find community, a drive to educate others on LGBT issues, for the chance to work with a variety of on and off-campus groups, or for the empower experience of speaking about their own experiences. After a short one-on-one training session with the Educational Outreach Specialist at the LGBT Campus Center, speakers are put on an email listserve which informs them of future speaking opportunities, and volunteer to speak when it fits their schedule and interests. Interested in becoming a speaker? We're always interested in working with new individuals at any time of the year.
Not sure if you want to request a session or become a speaker yet? Send us an email for more information or stop by the LGBT Campus Center.
Support Groups
Coming Out Support Group/Discussion - join our facilitators as they host a safe space to discuss such issues as coming out to family, friends and roommates. Each session will focus on the obstacles LGBT individuals face when coming out. Please check back for more information regarding dates as we prepare for the Spring semester.
