LGBTQ+ Perspectives

The GSCC and the Office of Human Resources are excited to offer you this learning experience!

This self-paced, virtual training will help you build your awareness and skills to help create a more LGBTQ+ inclusive culture and climate at UW-Madison and to improve the belonging and well-being of all employees, students, and campus community members.

The course has three sections. You get to choose where to start based on your existing knowledge:

  • Module 1: Introduction to the Perspectives Series – Information about the series if you have never participated in the online version of a Perspectives course.
  • Module 2: LGBTQ+ 101 – Information and activities for if you are newer to learning about LGBTQ+ communities or want more practice.
  • Module 3: LGBTQ+ Perspectives – This is the main course content. It will teach you about the climate at UW, how to use your existing skills to support LGBTQ+ campus community members, and how to build more inclusive working and learning environments.

Anyone who works at UW (or attends as a student) can benefit from this training. It is written for employees about their workplace practices, policies, and environment.

There is content for people new to learning about LGBTQ+ communities and more in-depth ideas about campus climate and culture for experienced learners.

This training has text, audio, downloadable files, and interactive activities. You can move through it at your own pace.

Module 1 may take 5-7 minutes.
Module 2 may take 5-15 minutes.
Module 3 may take 45 minutes to one hour.

You can complete the modules as part of your own professional development, or work with your supervisor to make it a goal.

You can also encourage your group or staff to take it as a team- everyone can complete on their own and then you can discuss it together.

After that, you could have GSCC staff join you for Q&A and scenario practice! See details below.

This training is a partnership between the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center (GSCC) and the Office of Human Resources’ Equity, Inclusion, & Employee Well-Being (EIEW) and Learning & Talent Development (LTD) teams. If you have any questions, let us know at LGBTQ@StudentAffairs.wisc.edu.

LGBTQ+ inclusion and intervention

After your team participates in LGBTQ+ Perspectives, GSCC staff can meet with you and your team to discuss Q&A, scenarios, and problem-solving unique to your group, department, or office.

Scenario practice will help participants feel more comfortable with problem-solving to support students and colleagues across the spectrums of gender and expression at UW and beyond.
